Anything new on the horizon?
on: September 20, 2024, 07:44:20 PM
Just wondering...again...if there will be any updates to the desktop version of ASP? It's a wonderful app, but I still have to do quite a few work arounds to make it usable and somethings I just have to "deal with" and can't get around.

Any inkling of life would be appreciated!

Hi,
Looks to me Lucky Clan has gone completely silent. Used to be pretty responsive/active.
Yes, he said they were working on a new “engine” but this was awhile ago.

Too much quiteness, it’s leading me to believe the app went the way of the dinosaurs. I don’t know and I don’t like to assume, but maybe I’ll have to look for something else.

I love this software. I use the desktop version, when I can, but it takes a lot of bouncing around within the app to get anything done. But, the brushes are awesome! And, it imports Photoshoip brushes pretty seamlessly.

It's the best software, in my opinion, for smoothly blending "paint". I have a few other painting apps, including Rebelle, and none of them come close.

I really wish they would continue developing the desktop version.

Sorry for the lack of replies. Here are few details what we are doing now.

2 years ago we start working on new graphic engine that was going to be used in future Artstudio Pro. First we were developing Artstudio and the engine simultaneously.
But as the engine was more and more advanced, few months we decided to finally finish it. That's why we temporary almost dropped Artstudio development.

To finish everything in the engine, fix bugs, make optimizations etc we decided to make small note-taking app (vector). We didn't want to use the engine in Artstudio because it could me make Artsudio unstable and buggy.

The note-taking app is almost ready now, and we really love how it works! The strokes are perfectly antialiased and smooth, framerate never drops below 120hz, saving is instantenous.

We also fully switched to SwiftUI and implemented great new UI, with nice draggable panels.

After we finish the note app we will return to Artstudio. It should take 1-2 months for that.

That's the story :)

That's great! I tell as many people who will listen about ASP. It has one of the best and easiest to use brush engine and, as I've said before, brings in Photoshop brushes nearly flawlessly. Some work bett in ASP than they did in Photoshop.

Thanks for the update! Looking forward to it.

Looking forward to check that notes app and the new engine.

I'm also looking forward to see new things in ASP, thanks for sharing, it felt it was being abandoned but it's good to know what the developer is up to.

Cheers.

Thank you for the update on the status of your development- looking forward to checking out the new note taking app. And really looking forward to new features for Art Studio Pro when you return to it!

It would be so cool if you guys had a blog or something where we could keep up on what you are doing. I dont think the twitter account has been sharing stuff like this, right?

Unfortunately however our team is not too big and we just don't have too much time for non-app activities.

Simple tuits in X would do the trick 😅

thank you for the update & hearing from the developers! I too love the app (paid the full version) and would be unfortunate if developers deserted it. I think it also has many many potentials like ui improvements. Hopefully when you guys get back to development you add more stuffs to art studio pro :)

also some suggestions for asp: add a sidebar option ( tools in the top are really unintuitive than before which were in the sides. On transform tool it would be cool if the apple pencil pro can rotate the “selected transformed area” by barrel roll. Also I think the quick menu could have an option for the texts to be replaced by icons for aesthetics (maybe custom icons too). Maybe add more gestures to asp like two finger swipe up for maybe like last tool used.

Overall please dont stop developing artstudio pro, maybe take breaks but dont give up on it :). Though on a serious note please invet in sponsors as the app is severely underrated and overthrown by the everpopular procreate (I actually tried it & had it refund for lack of features compare to this awesome thing  :) :) )
