Quick Menu Customization
on: February 10, 2019, 11:54:44 AM
Do you guys have a plan to include the feature where Quick Menu customization does not only limit to most of the menu items on the application. Rather, be able to customize brushes, eraser, canvas flip (tools as well could be part of the quick menu option)?

Right now, it seems anything customizable on quick menu is around all the menu items on the screen. Not any of the tools as part of the quick menu, like the brush etc.,

Also, I think quick menu access should also be customizable instead of fixed four finger tap. Quick menu, I presume is for quick access and especially 4 finger taps are inconsistent where you have to force yourself to align the 4 fingers to get the menu to respond, which seems to be quite inconsistent when ever I have tried. Having it configurable with 1 finger tap as you can in procreate etc., with a direction swipe to select one of the quick menu options, improves your work flow selecting a tool or operation very quickly even without waiting for the quick menu to open, then click on one of the options.

After using procreate and coming to this, I feel so many features are really great in Art Studio Pro, though. More refinements and polishing and customizability needs to added to make it even more powerful and easy to use.

Yes, Quick menus is fairly limited. I'd love to be able to add custom brushes, color-code squares to designate various groups of functions, have more items.

In version 2.1 you will be able to show quick menu with the following gestures:
- 4 finger tap
- 3 fingers swipe
- double tap Pencil action
- just a finger tap when using the Pencil

2.1 will also allow to add tools, and Paint tool blending mode Behind/Erase.
Canvas flip - it is available now, find 'Mirror' option in View section.

Great to hear those are coming soon.

Nice to know more customizations are on the way for quick menu. Great.
With one finger tap, if we can swipe in the direction of the menu item to select it as in procreate, it will be great as it becomes natural once you configure and start using it where you just make a gesture with one finger in one of the directions the quick menu item is and that option gets triggered which make the work flow really quick and smooth.

Looking forward to see them in action soon.

I will try to mirror option for the horizontal canvas flip. Great to know.

In new beta if you set "Quick Menu' finger function, you will be able to trigger Quick Menu action without rising a finger.

Where or how will I set the Quick Menu finger function? I cannot find anything under preferences. Where is this option proper? Please list the menu interaction so I know how to enable it. I see only the 4 finger gesture in preferences.

I am using Artstudio pro v 2.0.21 (252).

I tried the quick menu finger function with the Beta. It works great. You can press one finger and then select the operation.

It will be great if we can get this to operate with one finger and a swipe in the direction of the operation which works great in procreate and it make the quick menu operations that much faster instead of waiting for the quick menu to come up, then select the operation as its now. I like the way it is now when compared to the other options prior. But it could be improved with the direction swipe and the quick menu operation in that direction gets triggered. That would be even better and quick. Once people configure their frequent access tools in the quick menu, it would be automatic after sometime, where you just swipe in a specific direction to select painting, eraser, flip etc.,

I also tried the quick menu with tools like paint, eraser. They seem to work great. Now with the quick menu, I can select paint and switch to eraser faster.'

One question:
1. Is there someway when you select eraser, they brush selected is also in sync with the current paint brush selected? I would like to have the eraser have the same brush selected to the current brush I was working with in paint. In procreate you can press the eraser icon longer and it will switch to the same paint brush for the eraser around a second or two. It will be great if we can have a way to sync eraser to use the same brush as the paint brush for erasing as well.

One more thing about the quick menu. It will be great to select the brushes as well and configure it on the quick menu. It could be frequently used brush, which shows up on the quick menu to select and work.

I see now we have all the operations which can be selected within the quick menu.
Ability to select the brush groups and select a specific brush and having that as part of the quick menu will help in having some frequently used brushes inside the quick menu for quick access similar to paint, eraser etc., when one can switch back to specific frequently used brushes even though you might have been working with a completely different brush and want to select the frequently used brush quickly.

1. You can add new brush from Paint tool, activate Eraser, and pick that brush

2. There is also new way - we added 'Erase' blending mode to Paint tool. After activating it Paint tool becomes an eraser. You can add 'Erase Blending Mode' button to Quick Menu

Currently you can use "Favorite Presets"  popover for that

I added the Erase Blending mode to the quick menu and it behaves the way I was expecting.

Seems its a property, so when I select the Erase Blending option on the quick menu, it puts a tick mark to enable it for the current brush. To get the brush back to painting mode, select it again in the quick menu to disable that and revert back to the painting mode which is fine. What is the different between an eraser and an erase mode then? I understand erase mode is tied to a brush still but doing the erase operation though.

About the favorite presets popover, yes I understand currently we can use it to select adding the favorite brushes there and accessing them.

But having the ability to select a brush from the quick menu will improve the work flow drastically especially when someone is using a specific brush or couple of brushes quite frequently.
