Select tool leaves edge artifact
on: October 16, 2021, 04:04:54 PM
When hard edges is turned off in the select tool settings and then you make, fill, and erase within the selection there appears to be some edge artifacts that doesn’t get erased. This doesn’t happen when the hard edges setting is turned on though. I’ve attached a video of exactly what I mean. Is there a way to fix this?

It is ok, it works the same in other image editing applications.

It happens because selection edge pixels are semi-transparent.
Let's say the pixel opacity is 50%. Now when you paint, you fill layer pixel with only 50%, so layer pixel opacity is 50% after making a stroke.
Then you erase the selection-edge pixes, but you erase only "50%" of alpha (because selection pixel opacity is 50%), so the layer pixels opacity goes down from 50% to 25%.

Is it possible to have the semi-transparent edge pixels to be inside the selection border instead of on the border so that when you erase in the selection or clear the selection the edge artifacts don’t show up?

I'm not sure if I understand.
Selection border (marching ants) is draw between pixels with alpha < 50% and alpha > 50%. It works like that in any image processing app I know.
