New crash on most recent update
on: May 02, 2021, 09:05:23 AM
Very similar to another issue I posted several months back. Just updated to 3.1.4 and it's crashing roughly every 5-10 minutes, and autosave changes are being lost. Also crashes about 7 times out of 10 on manual save.

Using ipad os 14.4.1 + apple pencil

I don't understand how this can be happening and I not be aware of this issue? Because I'm NOT experiencing any such crash issue on my third generation of the iPad Pro 2018. I think alot of ASP users would be complaining of any such crash if the same could be demonstrated with step by step instructions.

Maybe ram memory is low. Please close all apps staying in background and reboot.

Already tried closing all apps and rebooting. So far it feels incredibly similar to this bug I reported in the past: https://www.luckyclan.com/forum/index.php?topic=1633.0

But as far as I can tell the culprit isn't the sliders or the eyedropper this time, and I have no idea what it is. I haven't identified a common pattern in the crashes yet, only that it happens very consistently every around 8-10 minutes and performance is completely normal before the 8-10 minute mark. If I save during that period I'm almost guaranteed a crash.

i can confirm the crashes, i was working on a 2988px x 5312px 72PPI canvas and all the sliders were sluggish, the app felt choppy and when i tried to transform something, the app crashed, 3 layers btw, 2 of them almost empty. I don't think that canvas size is that large to crash the app, worked in the past on a similar canvas size (bit smaller but 300PPI) and around 40 layers and never had a problem >.<

I saw you updated the app today and added something about memory/ram, so ill try again.

Could you tell me if you use any imported brushes?

I do have imported brushes but I wasn't using any (was using custom made in artstudio) when the crashes happened.

It seems to crash less often when the canvas size is smaller.

Not sure if it's related, but I just had two back to back crashes when using Elastify. It was acting much more sluggish than normal. 3300x5100 canvas, 45 layers; this is about half the size and 1/3 how many layers I usually use

Please always give us your ipad model, ios version and artstudio version when reporting crash issue. They are probably very rare cases, very hard to repeat, so we need as many details as possible.

10.5 inch ipad pro, 2018 model, ios 14.4.1, artstudio 3.1.5.

The current version (3.1.5) is slightly more stable than the previous, but I'm still getting crashes most commonly when blending or using elastify or saving. Happens roughly every 20 minutes or so.

Found the specs of my ipad: https://www.gsmarena.com/apple_ipad_pro_10_5_(2017)-8716.php

I definitely am not seeing these crashes at all. I hardly go beyond 5 layers on any of my artwork projects. It’s a wonder why such tools like Elastify (which I’ve never used and have no need for it) could be the culprit. I’ve also been blending but haven’t had any issues using it. I also have imported Adobe brushes but no issues on these as well.

I have a feeling this is a memory issue leak. Would also like to ask Lucky Clan if they could provide us with two things..

1. An option to clear out the memory cache in Artstudio Pro. It’s amazing there isn’t a tool to handle this inside the app.
2. A backup tool to store all our brush settings. In case something goes wrong and we have to uninstall and reinstall ASP…at least the backup tool to save all our brush settings and restoring them would go a long way to giving us some peace of mind.

1. Cache is cleared automatically, there is no need to do it manually

2. You can backup all your brushes/swatches/… using Files app - just backup this folder:
On My iPad > Artstudio Pro > User Resources
