Suggestion: Free placeable "HotKeys" on Tablet
on: December 11, 2018, 05:20:02 PM
I really love the painting engine but on thing I'm missing from Paintstorm: The Hotkeys.

They are the fastest and most individual way to execute functions of the app (and brushes), because they can be placed free on the screen. So an artist could be configure the screen and his tools in the way he like it.

So with hotkeys you could press and hold with a finger of your free hand to execute a function.

Examples:

Press and hold the corrosponding hotkey and...
- change the brush size  / flow with moving the pen up and down
- change a special brush parameters temporarly, i.e. deactivate auto clean for "dirty painting"
- protect the transparency for a short use (no clicking to menus)
- use the pen as color picker
- show a color palette and/or the color wheel directly under the pen
- show a "favorites"-list of brushes or change the brush with moving the pen up and down
- show the "4-finger-panel" for additional functions

Some hotkeys could be always on stage, some could be hidden and only shown for extended use.

Currently it happens often to me, that I accidentally change the slider settings on the right if I'm painting quickly.
And as a right hand painter the right side placement of the sliders aren't always ideal to access.

Would be great to hear what you think about it. And thanks for your great work!

I agree, I think there could be some very useful possibilities.

I suggested something similar a little while back after using a 3D sculpting app that has side buttons for different functions.
At the end of the clip I made a mock up of how it could work in ASP.

One alt-key button is planned for the near future. But adding too many hotkeys will clutter the interface.
