UI/UX Suggestions

I believe that wide possibilities of interface customization can be real competitive advantage of the app in compare with other art apps. All artists have there own preferences and work flows.

1. Reduce height of color panels:

Users mostly use their favorites modes like hsv for example, others can be removed under option button. This will make whole interface cleaner and makes more space for canvas.

2. Make left bars consistent with width:

Atm, sliders are 64px, undo/redo are 46 px, selection bar is 100 px. Sliders are a bit narrow, bars a bit too wide. 80px for both would be ideal, look consistent in terms of design and wouldn’t move you color/layers panel if you dock them to sliders and then use selection (it goes right to 36px atm).

3. All most used actions in one menu

Everybody speaks about design of Procreate this day. I think it’s good, because mostly all most used actions are in one place. In Artstudio some elements are scattered in different menus. Less menus leads to easier and faster navigation.

4. More space in layers panel

5. Thumb size round button

Can be turned on/off in settings and be placed in any area of screen. Can be used for different configurable actions:
1. Color picker button (hold button and tap pencil)
2. Eraser button (hold button to erase)
3. Switch brush and eraser by tap
4. Size changer (pull up/down to change brush size)
5. Opacity changer (pull up/down to change brush opacity)
6. Size/opacity changer (pull up/down and left/right to change brush size and opacity)

6. Sliders are optionally on top

This will help a lot to people who doesn’t use their left hand to operate with size/opacity.

7. Erase blending

I use it as a replacement for regular eraser. But it should be turn off automatically when you color pick.

8. Box and circle selections

I use only pencil mode. Lasso tool works only with pencil which is should be. But box and circle selections work with fingers also which leads to many accidental touches. It should work only with pencil too.

Hope I spent my time with use. Thanks.

Cool ideas. Those are interesting for me:
1. Reducing unnecessary elements in colorpanel. I would push it even more and hide even types of colorwheel/palletes. I would keep only 3 buttons - close, settings and add colorswatch. And under setting button there can be an option to show everything that was hidden.

4. Why do we even need the top Opacity and Blending mode info? Other programs already use abbreviatures for blending modes (M for Multiply, O for Overlay etc). How about adding this info minimalistically to the edge of the layer? To change blending mode/opacity you just press on the edge. Or if you want to change opacity of layer fast, you can just swipe over layer.

5. Actually makes sense. I like the Idea of Fresco when you can doubletap on the button to change its behavior so you actually have 2 buttons in one. I am just not sure how it would fit to Artstudio because we can already do lots of stuff by pressing finger anywhere on canvas instead of just button.

* I am incompetent to talk about other ideas mostly because I use different workflow.

Thank you for These really good suggestions. I was considering smaller colors and layers toolbar in 3.0. I will probably do it in 3.1.

I am completely in favour of smaller panels. Would be a great improvement.

Smaller panels (or rather 2-mode panels) will be added in 3.1.

That thumb button under 5. Sounds really really awesome, maybe it can be optional

One thing I’d really like is a way to tell what’s in a group without having to name them, like a preview of the combined layers instead of the folder icon

I am also in favour of smaller panels, especially narrower in width, to leave more room for the painting. Also, the panels won't go right up to the top, which wastes space

There really can be done a lot to save more screen space. I support that. I also wrote some suggestions here:

I wish the color sliders (the sliders mode in the floating color palette) were a bit wider.

Currently the color sliders range is a bit too short and hard to control, gotta be careful not to move it too much or you get the wrong value.

I suggest making the sliders slightly wider.  and making the numbers box optional ? To save space.

I think less people really use the number boxes when they have the sliders next to them.

(or maybe the numbers box can be less wide) in favour of wider sliders range.

Please consider... thank you!
