Help / Re: Where is the color wheel on the mac app?
on: January 24, 2023, 11:32:32 AM
I've been trying to push the Mac desktop version because I do think it's very good. The developer said sales were slow for it, so it wasn't getting as much attention as others.

I, too, can make a list of improvements that would boost sales, I would think.

One thing I find is a big boost that no one mentions is it's near flawless import of Photoshop brushes. I've only had to make a few tweaks to the many I've imported.

I'm also trying out ArtRage and Krita (I primarily use Photoshop) and I have spend hours in those pother apps to get my PS brushes to work, and haven't been able to.

One major thing I find odd about ASP is I can't easily use a reference image. You can't have documentys open side by side and you can't have a separate reference window you can color pick from.

I'm using the desktop version of ASP, so I don't know if there's the same thing in the iOS version, but under the Layer drop down and Layer palette, there's an option for Reference. I've selected it, but not sure what it does? It doesn't seem to do anything?

I was hoping that it would make it possible to open a reference image into a separate window (which would be something to hopefully add i the future)

Any insight would be appreciated!

Suggestions, Ideas, Bugs / ASP For Mac Separate Section?
on: January 17, 2023, 04:28:40 PM
I was wondering if it's worth having a separate section for the desktop version of ASP.

I have the desktop version and many times the IOS and Mac versions are very different. For instance, the manual is for the IOS and I have questions that aren't answered there.

I don't own the iOS version, just the desktop, so I can't compare, but why do you think the desktop version is underwhelming?

Personally, I use it just for painting. I don't use it as a Photoshop replacement as far as image enhancement work or anything like that.

I love the brush engine. I've brought in some PS brushes I' ve bought and some I made myself and with a few tweaks, some work better in ASP than they do in PS.

One thing I miss and it's a little cumbersome to overcome, is the ability to open reference images. There's a free app called PureRef tha can do the trick, but it would be nice to have it in ASP.

Well, ASP has a nice one! I think the key to a UI is it needs to be customizable. Most people have their own way of working. Also, people have most likely been using another app at this point and are used to using it. Most basically copy Photoshop. In fact, I purchased Artrage, which has a unique UI and I proceeded to make it look as much like Photoshop as possible!

Rebelle has a nice interface. I like that you can make any brush the way you want on the fly. For instance, in Photoshop, if I want to blend or mix colors, I have to pick the Mixing Brush. I'd rather just change that kind of option on the fly with the brush I'm using.

I like the idea of a paint mixing palette (once color mixing is implemented). Photoshop had a plugin called Mixoos, but I couldn't really get it to work correctly. I think Painter has a separate painting palette.

Well, that's my 2 cents for now!

Glad to see you're working on this! Many, including me, have bugged Adobe for years to implement this is Photoshop, but they don't seem interested.

I know your main competition is probably Procreate, but apparently they have no plans on making a desktop model, and you already have one that I believe, is a lot better than most people think if they haven't tried it.

You could promote it more, maybe.

I, too, mainly use Photoshop and am dabbling in Krita, but would love to work more in ASP if I knew it was going to be developed into the future.

You can sort of mix colors in a traditional manner, if you choose the right colors to begin with. I learned this from Kyle Webster in a Photoshop demo. If you want to make green from blue and yellow, you have to choose a blue and a yellow that's in the "green direction". Once you make your green from that, you can play around with it.

I did this in ASP.

Hi...

Are you still developing the Mac desktop version? Is there a v5 for desktop?

I've been playing with ArtRage and Krita (Photoshop is my main painting app) and the brushes in ArtStudioPro are much better, in my opinion, than either of those apps. I'd hate to put time in the desktop version of ASP if it's not going to be developed any longer.

Thanks!

That's a shame. Wish I knew that before buying the app.

Guess it's back to Photoshop...

OK I sort of solved this problem by using an app called PurRef: https://www.pureref.com/

I can have my reference image over the ASP window, even on a Mac. I just can't color pick from it.

Still would be nice to have a reference image in ASP and the ability to have to documents side by side.
