Oh I see, didn’t think about that! Glad it’ll work now 😊

It can be difficult to implement this because:
- drag gesture is already taken to scroll layers list
- long-press Eye icon is taken to "Show single layer"

We will rather add color tags, and select by tag. Probably in version 4.1.

Wouldn’t it be possible to divide the layer list into like three „invisible columns“, and depending on where you scroll/drag it, it either hides/shows, selects/deselects or scrolls trough the layers? I attached a screenshot to kind of show what I mean

And color tags will be great! But I think it still won’t solve these things I mentioned

Do users really want smaller version of the color panel? I think the current one has a nice size

109
Just saw it. That’s amazing, thanks so much for adding it! :D

Yes, so I’m using the 2021 M1 12.9 iPad Pro 512GB and for keyboard shortcuts I’m using the 8bitdo zero 2 controller and have set increase and decrease brush size to the L and R button of the controller. And it works fine when using brushes, smudge, eraser tool etc, but when trying it inside the elastify tool, it’s not responding/ nothing happens. Maybe that is because brushes etc change sizes in pixels but elastify tool in %?

Suggestions, Ideas, Bugs / Group clipping mask
on: January 11, 2022, 10:26:52 AM
Hey,

I don't know if it has been suggested before. But having the option to put groups as clipping mask would be a great feature. :)

Thanks

The only other app who i think has that option is clip studio paint, idk if it's maybe hard to program so it's not a feature in most apps. But it could often definitively save lots of time

113
Everyone works differently. But for people who work with many layers like me, those improvements would be really helpful

114
How many layers do you usually work on?

Grouping layers is a fast way to make lots of layers visible and invisible with one tap.

Speaking of current selection by swipes. It’s not the best realization: swipe right -> select, swipe right ->, swipe right -> select, etc. That’s really long time actions. I’d remove this 2 step action. Swipe right should lead to immediate selection/deselection.

Usually between 30 to 100 layers, mostly settling around 60, to keep good performance of the app. I already work with groups a lot, but I still find myself having to select/deselect and show/hide layers within those groups regularly, and it’s just a bit slow the way it’s working currently. Unless you’re using an actual keyboard that has shift on it (but my current 8bitdo zero2 controller that I use for shortcuts for example doesn’t have those function keys) in order to select quicker. However the Show/hide option doesn’t even gets solved with a keyboard, this is why I think the option to just swipe over the eyes like Photoshop, would be good solution.

And the current selection/deselection does actually does work immediately in 1 step, if you swipe right far enough. :)
So the current fastest solution without a keyboard, is imo to swipe right on one layer(far enough to actually select) in order to activate selection mode, and then select/deselect the other layers by just tapping on them. But I think that is still not ideal and could be improved upon in a way that I suggested. :)

Select/deselect layers:

So currently inside the layer window, in order to select multiple layers you have to tap on each layer individually while select mode is active, (or slide them to the right). It would be much quicker if there was an option to select multiple layers smoothly, like what happens when you’re using keyboard shortcuts and hold down shift to select multiple layers. But available as a gesture without keyboard.

This could work for example like this: when you’re in select mode, and slide with the Apple Pencil directly over the layer thumbnails, it selects and deselects those layers. The old option of tapping or swiping right could still stay, when not tapping directly on the thumbnails, and scrolling trough the layers would still work normally too when not sliding directly over the thumbnails.

Show/hide layers:

Like in select mode in order Show/hide layers in the layers window, you have to tap the eye of each layer individually. This could also work much quicker if instead of tapping the eyes, it would also be possible to just slide over the eyes with the pencil in order to hide or show them. And again scrolling would still be possible normally  when not sliding directly over the eyes. It works like this in photoshop too for example.

Thanks! :)

Hello!

I think the option to clear/delete a selection over multiple selected layers at once and entire groups, would be a really useful feature when working with many layers! Kind of like with the transform tool, where it’s possible to transform a selection on just one layer, or over all currently selected layers/groups.

Thanks! :)

That would be great! Maybe not even just the floating panels but option to scale the whole interface at once

On the same note I want to suggest again making the quick menu scalable or possible to select a size (small or large), I still find it too big in the Beta version.

I recently noticed that the “increase brush size” and “decrease brush size” keyboard shortcut do not apply/work when using the “Elastify” tool and was wondering if there is a reason for that or if it actually would be possible to implement this shortcut responding within this tool as well? I think this would make sense

And on another note, is it possible to add File> canvas recording > “Play video” and “export video” to the list of things you can add to the quick menu/ top toolbar/ keyboard shortcuts? And also File > “Export Layers” from the Beta, once it’s fully implemented. And File > “Information” (sometimes it’s really nice to see how many layers you currently have while working). So I think it would be nice to have all those options available as shortcut!

Thanks! :)

Thanks for all your remarks. We added "Allow Long Press Pencil Eyedropper" in Preferences.

However we are still not sure about "dynamic pressure" Line mode...

Awesome!😊

I also think dynamic pressure for line mode is good to have. Besides crosshatching it could also be very useful to quickly sketch out more dynamic looking perspective scenes/objects/guides, if you don’t want to wait for autoshape to activate. It’s like using a ruler in traditional art, just much quicker. And in traditional art when drawing a scene, you would usually touch the paper more lightly for things in the background and harder in the foreground, and also some guidelines you only want to see very lightly. It also can be useful to draw something like speed lines in comics or even paint something like rain quickly. So I think having pen pressure as default for line tool is a natural thing to have/expect. And I feel, it’s easy enough to use a brush without pressure sensitivity or turn it off for a specific brush, if you don’t need it. But a toggle for that somewhere in the tool settings could be solution too, like already said by others.

But also I think the tool by itself is probably only used by few people, since it’s only good for specific cases and most people will probably mainly use autoshape, which btw, I think it’s a good idea to make autoshape the standard setting when first downloading the app from the store, instead of freehand (idk if that’s already the case). Because I remember few months ago when I bought the app I was confused why there’s no autoshape and only later realized that there are drawing modes, so maybe more people feel like this.

But anyway, for those people who use line tool, they’ll benefit a lot to have dynamic pressure. I personally never really used/needed it before, but with the pressure sensitivity and live preview I see myself actually using it for some cases. :)

There was an app called Craft Pro made by borodante (a youtube artist from Ukraine) - Boro CG channel
It had interesting UI features, and a very ergonomic brush-size-changing/color-picking feature called thumb bar.
Adam Duff did some review of the app if you are interested https://youtu.be/X5z7CpdoCls?t=433

The thumb bar looked like a cool feature too! However, if you want to use the tablet one handed only, it’s less useful. For example if you have a keyboard or controller in your other hand, or when you hold the tablet in your left hand when not at a desk(couch, standing,…), or even when you just in general prefer using it one handed etc..

So once again I just want to plead to please never remove the long press eye dropper feature for the pencil, it’s just the best! And now that I know thanks to Mattnava that it’s possible to make the delay time for it even shorter, I can work even faster with it. I think it’s simply the best solution for blending quickly while painting, like Pikachu said as well, and just for picking color in general. So me, plus many others wouldn’t want to miss this feature! I even wish it was the standard in other apps too.
