Suggestions, Ideas, Bugs / Re: Beta 2.1 Build 246

A reference layer is mostly used for coloring comics and manga: First the line art is drawn on a separate layer. Then this layer is set as a reference layer and a layer below is created. Using the fill bucket set to reference it will always take the line-art as a base for the fill. So it is quick and easy to create flats, which can then be used for further coloring. The new expand option in the fill tool (beta) makes sure it expand the fill by a set amount of pixels, so the fill goes under the line art and no white edges occur in printing

A layer stack that is permanently visible could be useful, but ideally it should not take up more space than the color bar on the side. Perhaps it could be a switch to have the layers instead of the colors on the side? A quick layer list that is scrollable like the current color list, which when long pressed can reveal the layer details? I am not sure if this would be overkill with the existing layer solution though?

Thanls for your reply.

It does have to do with the accessibilty zoom function, as when I switch it on, the three finger gestures do not work in procreate too. Only thing I don't know, is why the setting changed, as I cannot remember ever doing anything with these settings :-\ :-\

About the fill tool: I think I must have been doing something weird with the layers or something, as everything seems to be working OK now.

Some little thing could be useful to add: I would appreciate keyboard shortcut for switching to the erase blend mode. I switch using the on screen menu, but when I use a keyboard, this would be very fast. In Clip Studio I use this all the time. I also use the CMD-D shortcut a lot to deselect, but when not using a keyboard I would like a quicker way to deselect, preferebly with a little contextual button. I know I can double click the selection tool button, but after that I have to reselect the tool I was using, so that is not the best way for me. I have deselect in the quick menu, which is OK for now.

I would like to say as well that I love the fact that Artstudio pro has the feature to temporarily switch tools by keeping the keyboard button pressed. I love this feature in Clip Studio and was so glad it worked in Artstudio too. It is a bit of a hidden gem, but it really speeds up workflow! Thanks! :D

About the cog wheel: I never used it actually, but now I know its there its there its much better.

Suggestions, Ideas, Bugs / Beta 2.1 Build 246

Thanks so much for the new beta. The rate of development of this app is phenomenal!

The bugs from the previous beta with text and drawing modes are resolved. The new smoothing mode is much better, far less mechanical to draw with, much more fun to draw! By adding the erase blend mode to the quick menu this is much easier to switch, which is great.

I did not expect reference layers to be implemented this quickly. I tried it with the fill tool and it works very well. I only missed an easier way to make a layer a reference layer. The only way in found it was via the top menu layer > lock/reference > reference. I think it also should be accessible from the layers popup, in the same place where you set masking etc.

The addition of the erase and behind blend mode to the fill tool is nice. The behind blend mode works best when the tool is not set to contiguous. One bug I found though is these only work when "all layers" is selected. When I set it to "current layer" it fills with the selected color normally.

One bug I found is that the three finger gesture did not work, neither the 3-finger swipe nor the 3-finger tap.
I did find myself accidentally triggering an iOS zoom window mode which I did not know exists?  I suspected some conflict with accessibility settings, and indeed, when I disabled the zoom option, the gesture worked as before. I do not remember ever changing anything to the accessibility settings, so I am not sure why this is a problem now?

All in all fantastic work, thanks so much!!

I noticed that in the latest beta the drawing modes Ellipse, Rectangle and Polygon do not work with the brushes. It in polygon and rectangle it only makes the first stroke, not the rest. In ellipse mode there only is one brush stamp on the canvas. Other drawing modes work as expected. Perhaps this has to do with the new freeform and line drawing mode you added?

I encountered the issue that text becomes invisible after I created it. It is still in the layers stack but is not on the canvas. After I edited the text and click "done", it just disappears...

I agree that clicking to many times is annoying. I have "clipping mask" setup in my quick menu (under preferences) which improves it a bit, but a simple icon in the layers menu would be easy to have. Or the ability to drag a layer onto another one to make it a clipping layer.

I think a clipping mask button in the adjustment window would be a bit much now. I really like the simplicity of the window as is.

The beta looks very promising. I can wait for this as I know you are going in the right direction. Favorite art app!

I would like to see a change to the brushes pop-up in ASP. What I find a bit frustrating is that the brush editor and the brushes list is in the same window. When I have the brush editor opened the brushes are still sort of visible at the bottom, but not really useable. When I want to select a brush I have to click out of the editor, which sometimes takes two clicks.

I think it would be easier if I had two buttons: one for brush selection only, and one for brush editing. If you don't want to add a button, perhaps the "more..." menu could also be used to access the brush settings. It seems more logical this way for me, as these already carry some of the brush specific options.

I second this request. Better organisation of presets is a must. It would be great to easily put together sets for specific purposes or pieces.

The same would be great for the favorites category

Suggestions, Ideas, Bugs / Re: Gradient map bug on mac os
on: January 22, 2019, 07:26:40 AM
Selecting specific gradients does not change it. Perhaps it is a retina UI thing?? I have an old iMac with a non-retina screen (full-HD). Perhaps it is not rescaling these things correctly, as the brush pop up window also looks a bit strange: it is wide so it could fit two brushes side by side, but there is only one. Sometimes some items in the list align to the left, while the rest is in the middle. I guess it should look like the window in the iOS version, with two columns? See the screenshot attached to see how it looks now.

I am sorry, I have a rather old mac, so perhaps these issues can be contributed to this. I still hope you can solve it, as I would like to use ASP on a Mac, but these issues are rather nagging. Thanks!

That one was well hidden, I did not try it! Thanks for the tip!

Suggestions, Ideas, Bugs / Request: hide UI on desktop
on: January 22, 2019, 03:15:20 AM
I would like to be able to hide the UI, as most other art apps like photoshop do, by hitting tab. Perhaps it could be like the minimal UI on iOS with only some colors, and a brush and color popup window?

This would allow for a more immersive painting experience, and also would work well with having a split screen on the side with a refernce image for instance

I would like to see sliders in the desktop version of ASP for size, flow and opacity. I think it would be easier and faster to set a value this way than with the little arrows. Basically the same as the iOS version.
