Suggestions, Ideas, Bugs / Color coding for Layers
on: September 01, 2022, 04:54:43 AM
Hi there,

I love ASP! I rediscovered it after being with Procreate & Fresco for a time. ASP is better than both though, just great.

I have a feature request: I would like to be able to color code my layers, as it really helps organisation, makes it easier to select the right layer or group.

Thanks!

Suggestions, Ideas, Bugs / Font import on iPad?
on: August 29, 2022, 04:06:55 AM
Is there a way to load a new font into ASP on iPad? I would prefer to load it into the app, like for instance Affinity Designer does, over having to use another software to install fonts.

There is a trick to export/import Favorites. You have to use Files, and copy this file between Beta and Normal version:
On My iPad > Artstudio Pro > User Resources > Presets > Favourites > Tools.artustudio_tools

Layout  exporting is not possible, sorry.

Brilliant, thanks a lot!

I really like where the new beta is going. The quick shape is quite helpful, s are the new options for the lasso fill. What I do run into is rather frequent crashes. Some situations where the beta has crashed are:

- installing/importing a new brushset sometimes crashes the app
- switching to another brush set has led to some crashes, especially to the bigger sets
- I had a few crashes when I switched away from the app to another app. I get the popup that ASP has crashed. Has happened 2-3 times in the last days.

Another more general question: I only have the Beta installed, as I have to watch my storage. What if I want to transfer setting from the beta to the retail version? I know I can export app settings, but is it possible to restore favorite brushes or app layouts?

It was quite some time I used ASP, but decided to get the new beta to try: I really like what you have done to the app! I like the fact that I can have multiple panels open (layers, colors) but I must say I would like them to be a bit more compact, especially the color editor. They are a bit too clunky now for my taste. Also I would like to be able to dock them in some way, and be able to open/close the whole sidebar at once... Having read your previous comments its not what you want to do with ASP, but it make my workflow more efficient.

I also like the fact that any action can be added to the top bar. I have set deselect, clear and erase blending mode in it, and this is very helpful for me. One little thing I would like to see is a kind of visual indicator when using the erase blend mode. Right now I can not see which mode is selected, and this might lead me to believe the brush or the program is not working properly, as it does not make marks. It would be solved if the button at the top bar showed some visual change when selected. It only has to be subtle, but it would help.

About keyboard shortcuts: this is an extremely cumbersome way to change the shortcuts, and won't let you see shortcuts already in place. It is so easy on the iPad, so it is strange to read that you think the Mac implementation is somehow OK...

That is good to know, I have high hopes for 3.0!

Suggestions, Ideas, Bugs / Is this forum still moderated?
on: January 30, 2020, 05:25:54 PM
I have been requesting things in this forum, put in bug reports and see others do the same. However for more than a week now it seems the developers have not responded to any of these issues. This begs the question if Lucky Clan is still active here, and if not, why? Perhaps it is just a flu or a heavy work load, but I guess it would be good to get some indication that our issues are read and if possible addressed.

thanks.

Would you consider adding HSV color mode: I prever it over HSB as the value remain the same when you change the hue or saturation, which I find very helpful.

I would like the ability to change the modifier keys, especially to change brush size with the space key pressed and dragging would be very helpful. Another option that would be nice to set a keypress for the pop up menu.

Hi,

I have a problem when I use pen and finger mode: I have set finger to open the quick menu, and long press for eyedropper. This does not work however, it will only bring up the menu, no matter how long I press. This is a bit of an issue as I like to have both options as easily accesible as possible.

Suggestions, Ideas, Bugs / Improvements to UI
on: November 07, 2019, 10:37:14 AM
I would love to make some suggestions to the UI to make ASP more efficient to use.

Having to open a palette every time saves drawing space, but it slows down the process of drawing and breaks the flow. Procreate has the same problem, though it is very immersive, having to keep clicking open menus is annoying. Therefore I would like to have the option to have palettes permanently open, perhaps by having a simple toggle on the palette. The color wheel and/or swatches panel, the brushes and the layers menu would all fit.

Another thing is to be able to rearrange the tools panel. more than 50% of the tools I don't use, so having them take up space makes no sense to me. I would rather have only the tools I need, but without having some of these grouped. Like the wet brush and the normal brush, or the various selection tools. I would like direct access to the freehand selection or the polygon selection. Having to long press then select takes more time.

Please redesign the color window so it is bigger and easier to work with, having it in there with the swatches is not really working well, it all feels cramped.

Having the swatches on the right side is a good option, but I would prefer to have the option to long press the color bringing up the color menu so I can make adjustments. The sliders for HSB are an interesting idea, but I find them much less intuitive than a color box or wheel, as I have to make adjustments in three places rather than two in case of a wheel/box. It is easier to get the color this way than in the current state, where I have to go back and forth between sliders and ofter prefer to actually open the color menu. For small adjustments it is OK, but not for bigger ones.

I think the placement of the brush and color menus, should be reconsidered. It does not really make sense to me how it is done right now. In normal mode it is at the bottom, which is awkward to use with the non drawing hand. In paint mode it is more like procreate, but then it is combined with buttons with completely different functions (The finger/touch button, The UI button and the fullscreen button) which are confusing and lead to false clicks and confusion. IMHO these three buttons should be somewhere where they are not as visible, and do not interfere with drawing operations. The pen/touch button should just be in preferences.
The switch UI and full screen buttons could be combined, so when I click once, i enter painting mode, twice I get fullscreen. This would save two buttons. I still think that the color and brush and layers tab should be in the same place for all drawing modes. As an aside, I find the "brush stamp as button for the brush menu" not very functional, as it is just a small dot for small brushes or a black square for big ones (which often makes me confuse it for the color menu...) Having just a simple brush Icon there would do the trick.

I know that using the app on a smaller screen might make some placements difficult, but then again, there also is procreate pocket... (a separate app specifically for small devices) And most people using this app professionally will use at least a 9'' iPad, so it would make sense to optimize the app with this size or bigger in mind.

I am sorry this turned out rather long, but as an avid user of both ASP as well as Clip Studio and Procreate, all of these apps have their strengths and weaknesses. ASP is sort of in between these two, so would make the ideal app if some issues, mostly based on the UI, are addressed.  :)

I agree 100%. I would love to have a color wheel open all the time, in a window like the reference window. The same holds true for the brushes and the layers menu. I know this would make the drawing space smaller, but drawing would be much more efficient to not have to open and close menus again. Being able to drag these palettes to a convenient place on the screen, which for me as a right hander would be the left hand side of the screen, would increase efficiency.

For what it is wort, Clip Studio Paint has stabilizer options for the selection tool as well. I agree it would be a good option to have for ASP as well.
