Suggestions, Ideas, Bugs / Color coding for Layers
on: September 01, 2022, 04:54:43 AM
Hi there,

I love ASP! I rediscovered it after being with Procreate & Fresco for a time. ASP is better than both though, just great.

I have a feature request: I would like to be able to color code my layers, as it really helps organisation, makes it easier to select the right layer or group.

Suggestions, Ideas, Bugs / Font import on iPad?
on: August 29, 2022, 04:06:55 AM
Is there a way to load a new font into ASP on iPad? I would prefer to load it into the app, like for instance Affinity Designer does, over having to use another software to install fonts.

Suggestions, Ideas, Bugs / Is this forum still moderated?
on: January 30, 2020, 05:25:54 PM
I have been requesting things in this forum, put in bug reports and see others do the same. However for more than a week now it seems the developers have not responded to any of these issues. This begs the question if Lucky Clan is still active here, and if not, why? Perhaps it is just a flu or a heavy work load, but I guess it would be good to get some indication that our issues are read and if possible addressed.

I have a problem when I use pen and finger mode: I have set finger to open the quick menu, and long press for eyedropper. This does not work however, it will only bring up the menu, no matter how long I press. This is a bit of an issue as I like to have both options as easily accesible as possible.

Suggestions, Ideas, Bugs / Improvements to UI
on: November 07, 2019, 10:37:14 AM
I would love to make some suggestions to the UI to make ASP more efficient to use.

Having to open a palette every time saves drawing space, but it slows down the process of drawing and breaks the flow. Procreate has the same problem, though it is very immersive, having to keep clicking open menus is annoying. Therefore I would like to have the option to have palettes permanently open, perhaps by having a simple toggle on the palette. The color wheel and/or swatches panel, the brushes and the layers menu would all fit.

Another thing is to be able to rearrange the tools panel. more than 50% of the tools I don't use, so having them take up space makes no sense to me. I would rather have only the tools I need, but without having some of these grouped. Like the wet brush and the normal brush, or the various selection tools. I would like direct access to the freehand selection or the polygon selection. Having to long press then select takes more time.

Please redesign the color window so it is bigger and easier to work with, having it in there with the swatches is not really working well, it all feels cramped.

Having the swatches on the right side is a good option, but I would prefer to have the option to long press the color bringing up the color menu so I can make adjustments. The sliders for HSB are an interesting idea, but I find them much less intuitive than a color box or wheel, as I have to make adjustments in three places rather than two in case of a wheel/box. It is easier to get the color this way than in the current state, where I have to go back and forth between sliders and ofter prefer to actually open the color menu. For small adjustments it is OK, but not for bigger ones.

I think the placement of the brush and color menus, should be reconsidered. It does not really make sense to me how it is done right now. In normal mode it is at the bottom, which is awkward to use with the non drawing hand. In paint mode it is more like procreate, but then it is combined with buttons with completely different functions (The finger/touch button, The UI button and the fullscreen button) which are confusing and lead to false clicks and confusion. IMHO these three buttons should be somewhere where they are not as visible, and do not interfere with drawing operations. The pen/touch button should just be in preferences.
The switch UI and full screen buttons could be combined, so when I click once, i enter painting mode, twice I get fullscreen. This would save two buttons. I still think that the color and brush and layers tab should be in the same place for all drawing modes. As an aside, I find the "brush stamp as button for the brush menu" not very functional, as it is just a small dot for small brushes or a black square for big ones (which often makes me confuse it for the color menu...) Having just a simple brush Icon there would do the trick.

I know that using the app on a smaller screen might make some placements difficult, but then again, there also is procreate pocket... (a separate app specifically for small devices) And most people using this app professionally will use at least a 9'' iPad, so it would make sense to optimize the app with this size or bigger in mind.

I am sorry this turned out rather long, but as an avid user of both ASP as well as Clip Studio and Procreate, all of these apps have their strengths and weaknesses. ASP is sort of in between these two, so would make the ideal app if some issues, mostly based on the UI, are addressed.  :)

Suggestions, Ideas, Bugs / Brush smoothing problems
on: September 27, 2019, 03:02:13 PM
I run into some problems with the brush smoothing options in the latest Beta (perhaps it was there before). For one the value spectrum goes to 100, but already a a small value (20-30) the effect is very strong and creates quite severe lag. I know some lag is to be suspected with smoothing, and I know it from other apps, but Clip Studio works a bit differently in that I can set it to "adjust by speed". This means that the effect of stabilisation changes according to the speed I draw at. This makes it feel more natural and still controllable. Are you interested in implementing this as well?

Another more serious problem is that when I set a value of 50 or higher, it will sometimes result in a blob (one brush stamp) at the start of the line every time draw. It is doing so with some brushes not others, I have not been able to establish a pattern yet.

Suggestions, Ideas, Bugs / Some improvements/suggestions
on: September 16, 2019, 10:34:46 AM
Its great to see the improvements in the Beta. Being able to add tools to the Painting mode is very useful. Also the reference image is a great addition.
Some improvements in this respect I would like to see:

- Color pick from the reference image: this is a thing that can be toggled in Clip Studio and is super useful.
- Load a couple of images at a time, between which I can switch.
- Toggle hide/view reference image in painting mode.

As for the painting mode it would be useful to somehow bring up the main menu with a button, like is possible in CSP.

As in painting mode the brushes menu moves to the top, I always confuse it with the button for stylus/finger. I don't use this button and don't know why a menu option for this would not suffice. Now it takes a too prominent place which is annoying to me.
I would also rather have a befault "brush" button than the stamp preview, as it is sometimes hard to see with small brushes. I also don't find it very useful to have the preview.

I hope you can use this feedback for improvements to the app, thanks.

I hope you can put some resources in fixing the Mac app, as it seems rather broken in many things:

- The brush sorting is very wonky, it probably should look like the iPad version, but it is all jumbled.
- The Gradient map UI is broken, see screenshot
- Having the color picker window open slows down the app, especially on tool switching, see the screen recording I made
- The text in the brushes overview is quite blurry

Please give it some love, as it is not really useable for me now. I know iPad is your main focus, but I believe the Mac app has a lot of potential that is wasted. Improving the things mentioned, plus a full screen mode and customizable shortcuts would make it a very good app indeed.

(I am using an iMac 2011 with el Capitan)

When I try to use the text tool in the beta, I get a normal text window in the selected font, but when I type something, there are only the two text tool handles, but no text. I have tried several fonts, but no cigar.  :-\

In the new light UI (very nice) the brush menu does not work correctly. The complete brush preview is black. I guess it still needs some work.

I noticed that in the last version of ASP on the Mac, I get a lot of lag (rotating beachball) when I have the color editor window opened.

Normally I would paint, then quickly switch to the eraser and back again. When I open up the color editor window this slows down a lot, and each time I switch tools it takes a few seconds before I can use the tool. This happens every time I switch tools, with all tools where the color editor is visible. When I close the color editor, everything is smooth again.

Perhaps there is some memory bleed or other bug. I hope you can resolve it. Thanks!

The latest version of ASP, 2.1 has a nasty bug, which makes it crash almost every time I try to create a new document.

When it does not crash, I get a completely black background (instead of the white first layer, option "white plus transparant layer!). Whatever color I try to pick to change the color of the layer, it always remains black. Also any mark I try to make will always be black.

When I open an existing document I created with the previous version, everything works fine...

This is a very nasty bug, which makes ASP unusable at the moment. I hope you can fix this ASAP!

Suggestions, Ideas, Bugs / Request: stabilizer for selection
on: February 14, 2019, 03:12:00 AM
I would love to see the abiility to have the stabilizer settings for the lasso selection tool. Clip studio has this feature, and it make creating smooth selections a lot easier.

I won‘t be using clip studio if i don‘t have to though, as ASP is so much easier to work with on the iPad, much better UI and much, much better performance. It is a joy to work with!

Suggestions, Ideas, Bugs / Tilt support
on: February 10, 2019, 11:51:32 AM
One area where i think ASP is still lacking a bit, is tilt support for brushes. In other apps like proceate or infinite painter it is possible to create a nice pencil which tilts to create shading. Though it is possible in theory i cannot really get a result like the other apps mentioned, or apples own notes app. I would like to have more options or understanding how this could be done in ASP?

Suggestions, Ideas, Bugs / UI improvements?
on: February 10, 2019, 11:41:12 AM
I have been using ASP for some time now, along with other art apps, like procreate, infinite painter, concepts, affinity etc. ASP is probably the closest to a complete art app for me, but somethings in other apps have a nicer implementation, which i think could improve ASP.

1. with the introduction of the full screen mode in the beta, i don‘t see much use for the painting mode. For my workflow i would either use the full ui, as i need selection and fill tools, and frequently go through the top menu for commands. When i want to concentrate on drawing only i would use the fullscreen mode, and switch back when i want to change tools or do other operations. The drawing mode offers not enough benefits to me to use it, it has too much UI for concentrated drawing, and too little for the rest. It would clean the UI too, if there would be only 2 modes. Perhaps a prefernces setting for the parts of the UI one wants to hide, like the one in the original AS, would be useful.

2. some more use of gestures could benefit the full screen mode. Infinite painter has the 3 finger swipe to the top or bottom to resize the brush, and left/right for opacity (or flow in ASP). This is quite elegant and works well.
A single finger swipe or swipe out gesture to expand or hide a palette could also be useful. Infinite painter has the minimal layers menu on the right, which can be expanding by swiping. I find this quite intuitive.

3. the color option would make more sense to me as it was in the original AS, at the top of the color bar, but not scrolling (like the favorite tools in the left tools bar)

4. i would like to see a permanent layers menu at the right, perhaps as a switch with the colors like the one you implemented in the latest beta between opacity/size sliders and colors. Expanding it could be done by swiping.

These are just some ideas. I think ASP already has great features, but a slightly cleaner and more logical UI would help improve even more.

Thanks for the work, i hope you can use my feedback!
