Hmm Eyedropper offset is working for me. I'm on IOS though, in case that matters.

Are you sure you're adjusting the correct offset parameter (at the bottom)? The offset for drawing is close by, and changes to that can be made even if it's toggled off, so nothing would actually happen on the canvas.

Suggestions, Ideas, Bugs / Re: Smudge tool
on: April 05, 2024, 12:50:02 PM
So you want the brushes to smear more than blur? ASP is really good at this.

With the smudge tool selected in the toolbar pick a smudge brush (or even the pigment brushes are good for this) and toggle Pattern, Aux Stamp, Jitter, and Dynamics off.

In the wetness section, set Blend transparency to 'Full', turn off blend radius (to disabled)
set Mix Rate to around 15
Set wetness to at least 50% or more
Turn on 1px spacing smudge
Turn off dynamics, and make sure flow is 100% since these can really affect everything else.

Make ake sure your brush stamp is a simple shape to start.  There are other settings that affect blur/blend but start there.

Test that out on some flat color swatches (no space between them) to see what it's like. it should just pull color away from the swatches without blending them (but will blend with the transparency). Then incrementally turn blend radius up to a value you like -> he larger the radius, the more color averaging/blur will occur.

let me know how that works.

Help / Re: Two finger gesture
on: January 20, 2024, 07:39:30 PM
Make sure the app is set to pen & finger mode. it's the third icon in the upper left corner of the app. It looks like a pencil in a circle. If its orange, only pencil input will be allowed, make sure it's off (or white in color).

You can also find it in the menu under Artstudio > Preferences > Pencil Settings

Help / Re: IPad - Tools on Left side of screen possible?

open the menu (three bar icon in upper left) click Artstudio > Preferences > Interface > left hand mode. It is the first option in the second section.

I don't want to change the modifier keys to something different, just wondering if the adjust size function can be added to another key like 's'. Similar to how zoom/rotate/pan work with a single key and click-dragging mouse onscreen- Thanks!

I recently started using a Bluetooth keyboard when drawing/painting. Its great! However, In the manual there is a section of keyboard shortcuts called 'additional shortcuts' where brush size and other parameters can be set with 'held' key combos such as ctrl+option, but that section isn't in ArtStudioPro editor.

Since it is now in gestures section rather than the shortcut editor, I guess its not possible to customize it, but it would be great if that were an option. I'd like to have single key for changing the size as its much easier than having to holding down two.

Cool! I use these steps often.

:o Just saw that the two previous topics are in preferences already.

Under Tools: 'Show cursor at the last stroke location when resizing' & 'Show brush preview always in the corner'.

I may have derailed this thread by fumbling about the preferences and tools... but the brush switch preview thing is still interesting, to me anyway (first post). I don't have an iPad with hover, but it would probably be nice to get a quick preview when switching tools/brushes, even with that feature. Anyone else think it would be useful (or not)?

Note: I've found that if I set Finger Function to adjust brush size in preferences, the cursor follows the finger (like I suggested), but if 'Three Finger Swipe' is set to adjust brush size, the cursor stays in the last position the stylus was at. While I prefer the cursor to follow the movement of my fingers, I can see that some may prefer it to be stationary. So, I'm just asking if cursor follow/not follow (and possibly Brush Preview Box visible/not visible) during resize could be made an independent option rather than be tied to the one finger or three finger gestures.

The static cursor outline I was referring to is no longer happening. Not sure what that quirk was, but now in both finger and three finger modes the cursor follows the resize movement.

Cursor when resizing - rather not, there is already "brush preview box" which shows the same.
Edit: Can it be a floating panel like the colors or brushes panel? It would still disappear after a moment like it currently does but could be placed like other panels.

Try these brushes:
Mixers > Full Mixer
Mixers > Full DYnamic Mixer

Thanks!

Is there a particular brush set up or an example video of how this works? I'm probably using this incorrectly, but most of the time nothing happens when selecting/loading paint with auto clean and auto load off. Occasionally there will be a tiny bit of 'loaded' paint at the start of the stroke but then the previous brush color takes over immediately.

I found that too - it has to do with 'auto clean brush' being turned off. Turn it back on and the color picker goes back to normal.

Thanks for taking the time to look into these!

Switching brush - is it available in any other painting app?
Not that I've seen. Maybe the Brush Preview Box (or a modified version), would be clearer than the cursor since it would be onscreen for a short time and has more opacity.

Resizing brush cursor - we will consider adding option where it will be shown
Thanks!

This idea is somewhat related to the previous suggestion, but I understand that setting cursor = none is sort of its own mode.

Switching brush tools:
Similar to how the layers flash to indicate which layer is active, quickly displaying the selected brush stamp on screen when switching tools (and therefore size) will be useful. This will show the user if brush needs to be resized or not without having to make a stroke and possible undo if it's not the right size. The amount of time the stamp will be displayed would be adjustable like other settings such as eye dropper long press delay.

Resizing brush tools:
I don't find the brush display (dark square) all that useful and prefer the cursor to be near my fingers when resizing like the elastify tool (when cursor outline is on). This way brush size can be gauged over a specific area. Currently the brush stamp stays at the last stylus position.

Art studio pro has options for showing cursor/brush style given various conditions, but if you don't like the cursor visible when applying paint and set it to none, you lose the ability to see the outline near your fingers when resizing the brush or elastify tool. An option for showing the brush cursor when resizing (and hovering if available) but not when painting would be great.

Help / Re: Mixer Brush Settings
on: March 09, 2023, 12:07:37 PM
Hey glad it worked out!
I've noticed that when you set constant paint that low it can be difficult to get the full color that is set in the color wheel. A solution might be to raise the Constant Paint value higher (maybe even 100 depending on what your goal is) and then use the paint Dynamics to control how much paint is applied.

So (as far as I can tell), the 'Paint' parameter in the Dynamics settings is connected to the 'Constant Paint' value in Wetness settings. You can set this to be modified by pressure, tilt, etc. Of course, this may not be what you're looking for in that particular brush, but it's good to be aware of.
