Help / What’s the pigment feature about?

In the layers panel I see pigment at the top left, and also in the blend mode list. I would like to learn how to use this. Could anyone explain how to demonstrate using pigment? How is this intended to be used?

I tried to copy a selection using the polygon lasso, then I deselected, made a new layer, and pasted. It worked (pasted) as expected.

Things to check: when you copied, confirm the layer is not empty ( might be copying from an empty layer above the content layer). Confirm the source content layer isn’t a masking layer. Try to simplify the situation, using a file with content on just one layer.

With respect to the hint, can you confirm that the image you want to import, does not in fact exist in a folder with 400 or more “untitled###.artstudio files? (### stands for the appended number)

Could you try using the files app to move your file into a new, empty folder, and then seeing if the same error occurs when you open it from Artstudio?

My steps:
1) select a folder and long press to reveal share.
2) select export and choose jpeg as the export type
3) program displays cycling clock, but never succeeds.

Selected folder was on iCloud, in documents.
As mentioned, exporting in artstudio format is successful using the same source folder.

I was trying to make jpeg backups of my art, and I found that it was taking too long. Using a smaller folder with 4 artstudio files, I confirmed that I could export the folder. It took a few seconds. When I then chose the jpeg fomat, the export went on without end, until I cancelled after 15 minutes. The same thing (interminable process) happened when I chose the heic format. I am working with current IOS and artstudio 4.1 on an iPad Pro 13" gen 3.

Anyone else see this bug? Is there a workaround? Are the developers aware of this?

I want to call a series of steps, with input like a lasso shape and a Color select, where the steps create layers, fill, mask, group and so on. I looked into the shortcuts app, but it seem art studio has not exposed any of its commands to the shortcuts app, so shortcuts is out. Are there any other automation apps on iOS 15.4 which allow screen recording and replay of Artstudio interface actions? Any other ideas on how I could call a series of actions?

I found (under file, add preset, add pattern) that I was able to use a jpeg from pictures. Then once added, I could see the pattern available. Seems easy, now that I know.

If I'm editing a new brush, and I want to edit the stamp by importing a new (is it a jpeg or what) file?
When import browsing I can't see anything in photos, which suggests I need to ask "What kind of file should I be supplying when I go to import a brush stamp?". Are brush stamp files specific? How would I make one? Thanks for your help as I explore this!

Can anyone point me to a reference for what various blend modes do? For example, what are the operations in executing an overlay blend? This might be something developers access from Apple, or as article about art studio, or even a science article. Hoping for specific technical descriptions of each blend mode, especially overlay.

If I select with the ellipse tool, it describes the ellipse from one corner to another as I drag the selection. Is it possible to select from the centre outward? Same for the rectangle selection?
