Title: Flesh tones
Post by: RobC on February 20, 2023, 12:37:20 PM
I’m not satisfied with my attempts to create flesh tones: either dark or light. They all appear a little too yellow, orange, ashen, chocolate…etc. Anyone have any tips? Or, is this just something I have to keep working on until I get it right?

The color editor (in the Mac version) has a swatch set called Skin Tones.

I would recommend checking out skin tone palettes on Pinterest. You can download the images and color pick and save your favorite combinations as ASP palettes. You can also save some of your favorite artists art and study what colors they typically use and make your own palettes that way too. :)

Bob, I am using an iPad for this drawing. Is there a color editor for this? If so, I cannot find it. I know how to access the color wheels, etc. But, I can’t find anything like a skin tones collection.

Maybe it’s just on the version for desktop or laptop?

In the desktop version, I click on the color square (basically, it's the current color). The Color Editor pops up. At the bottom of that, there are a few Swatch categories to pic, One is Skin Tones.

Downloading an image and then choosing the color is a great idea. Thanks!

Here’s a good resource to start with skin tones. https://youtu.be/m0GUYm6MlL8
It doesn’t only apply to comics, of course.

First of all try to use swatches from "Skin Tones" group.
To do it open Colors panel, tap "swatches" icon in the bottom bar, then scroll to "Skin Tones" and tap group title (Skin Tones) or pick any swatch from this group

Here are some of my favorite skin tone palettes. The artist that made them goes by puppsickle. You can find more by them on Pinterest or google. I usually color pick them and save them as swatches.
