I’ve been really loving the 4.0 update. Phenomenal job! I really love this app and I was wondering what are going to be some of the planned features in the next major update? Is there a planned ETA.
-
The biggest two features will be:
- animations
- vector pen tool
-
Just to clarify, when you say "vector pen tool" do you mean a regular pen tool or do you mean full vector image support?
-
Omg that sounds great! Looking forward for animation tools especially!
-
I’m not sure yet… rather pen tool only, with vector layer.

Animating on artstudio sounds like a dream... depending on how thorough you want to be with it, there's an app I could recommend you look at called callipeg which is focused entirely on animation. Though I know adding an elaborate animation interface is probably unrealistic, so even a simple frame by frame animation option is something I'd really be looking forward to!
-
Yes I agree callipeg is a good app to get inspiration for the implementation, and something like it inside Artstudio would be amazing! Actually I’ve also recommend just that yesterday to the ASP developer, but via email haha
-
Autoshape vector tool would be like the next level and ability to move the point while in drawing mode. I'll upload a video of my process in how I use pen tool in photoshop.
Autoshape for pen tool
2 step drawing, Shape from autoshape > edit shape using nodes.

Thanks for you suggestions about Callipeg, however we will not make so advanced animation features in the first try...
Vector tools - it will be probably released a bit later, not in 4.1. That's because we are not sure how it should work and it seems every user expect something else about vectors....
-
Will post-editing autoshapes be a feature in 4.1?

I need that too, the auto shape feature is not useful for me without post editing, it's nearly impossible to place the shape correctly :'(
-
Maybe... ;)

That makes sense, but is there a chance we still might get something like the motion paths and motion layers(to allow for multiple timelines) like in Fresco?

you are crazy!

I am super excited about the possible addition of a vector pen tool or just vector capabilities in general. This would open up so many new possibilities for creating the type of art I usually do in other applications only with the awesomeness of Artstudio Pros epic painting abilities as well. I will be following the progress of this feature closely. Cheers Lucky Clan!

Vector features have to wait. I was doing researches last weeks, and it is more complex than i expected before...
Btw, here is one thing i implemented recently:

Cool. 8)

As a character designer who always needs to produce turnarounds, animation will help a ton! It will be nice not needing to export to other software to do this!
-
We have animation feature 80% ready...
-
Wow 80% ready! Can't wait ;D ;D ;D ;D when are you going to release it?!?
-
Beta should be available in 2 weeks.
-
Any news on the beta? Super excited!

I would love to get back on the beta testing.
-
Beta version with Animation is available now! If anybody would like to join tests please contact us at [email protected]

Maybe... ;)

Has there been any updates to this?

Please implement an audio timeline function even if it is a single timeline with just cut and delete option. Audio is very important in animation.
-
We will rather not audio track in Artstudio. You can easily add it in iMovie or other apps.

Audio track is not for post production or to be added later. It is there to sync the animation with the audio. Audio track is a hugely requested feature even or procreate forums. If you implement it then a lot of procreate users would happily switch to art studio for animation work. The audio track needs to be with basic cut/paste and delete function or if that is difficult then just a simple track with no editing feature would also do for now.

Since procreate never implements requested features (adjustment layers is still not there in Procreate which is lame) so an audio track could be a big opportunity for Art Studio pro. You could write on your app store page something like...
Art Studio pro, the best digital art app on iOS now with animation feature and an audio track. Yes, you heard it right, an audio track to sync your animations.
-
Yeah, it would be really cool!
But using a dedicated video editor is probably the best way to go.
Luma Fusion is cheap and easy to use as an example.
Users with 2,4, and 6 GB of RAM will probably end up using virtual memory. And everything slows down to a crawl.
Original animation drawings, animation cache and then adding audio files to the mix will be problematic to fit into physical memory.
An iPad with 8-16GB ram will probably work. But personally, I can't afford one and I guess it's not only me. :)

The audio track is not for post production or sound effects. It is there to sync the animation with the audio. Art studio pro can impose any limit on the size of the audio file such as, there will be just one audio track of xyz duration, the audio file must be below 5 MB or below 128 kbps or even lower. That doesn't matter. The audio needs not to exported with the animation either. It is there just to create animations in sync with the audio or voiceovers. High quality audio or sound effects can be added in video editors once the animation is ready. I have Luma fusion it does not even support keyframe easing. The feature is under Beta testing for the last one year with no release date so far.

Check this app for reference luckyclan, https://mooltik.app has animation groups (scenes) and audio track, i mean, the audio track does not show the waves so is not super easy to sync things but even an implementation like that is really helpful. App is free if you wanna get ideas from it :]

We will consider adding audio track in future versions...
-
Awesome! :)
iPad M1 16GB here I go. ;)

That’s great. Thank you for considering this. You always listen to what your users want. :) :)
