Create a custom wood background in ArtStudio.

1. Create a new document that fills your devices screen.

2. In the color pallet select colors #954e00 & #873b01

3. Using the gradient tool to create a radial gradient centered at the top of the document. It is helpful to scale down the document using View > Zoom Out when creating a gradient that starts at the edge of a document like we are doing here.

4. Create a new layer and fill with pure black.

5. Using Filters > Noise > Add Noise. Use settings: Monochrome, Strength 40 and Density 100.

6. Set this layer to Screen with an opacity of 25%

7. Create a new layer then select and hold the brush tool to bring up the brush options.

8. Select the basic brush 17 and adjust the settings as shown.

9. Set white as the current color and draw alternating vertical white lines across the canvas. These will become wood grains so randomness is a good thing.

10. Once drawn we need to blend these strokes using Filters > Blur > Motion Blur. Set the angle to 0 and the radius to maximum.

11. We need to repeat steps 7-10 using a black brush with the same settings. Make sure you create a new layer for the black strokes. It can be helpful to hide the layer with the white strokes while drawing the black ones.

12. Next we need to set the layer blending for both the black and white strokes to "Overlay" with an opacity of 20-30% depending on your preference.

13. Repeat steps 7-11 multiple times using different size brushes and strokes. Try using a larger soft brush as well as very small sharp brushes. Below are some examples of the strokes used to generate the wood texture in this tutorial. The more layers and brush strokes you add the more beautiful your wood texture will become.

14. Finish off your wood texture by creating a new layer on top of all the strokes and fill using a dark reddish brown. Set the layer to "Overlay" and adjust the opacity as desired. This is a bonus step if you wish to bring out a different hue in your wood texture.

15. Finally export your texture to your photo library and set as your home screen background.
