Specify background color for new files
on: November 01, 2021, 01:23:33 PM
I often like to start on a brown canvas for sketching, would it be possible for us to be able to set the color being used on a preset?

+1 for this feature. I like to start my art with an 85% grey background.

we really need a way to define our own presets... also a way to specify exporting options like scaling/size/dpi of the final image

I agree, both for presets for a new file (like a background color) and exporting options as @LCArt suggested!  :D

To specify the dimension of exports are indeed a useful feature that would offload the extra work exporting for online galleries, Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and so on. Define presets are useful for non standard formats. I usually find the right presets in the list as I am working in the book cover section.

Presets - app remembers 10 recently used canvas configurations (tap File > New > New Empty, then tap "Preset"). However there is no option to set background color different that White/Black/Gray, we will improve that soon.

Export - please write what options would you like to have there. Is size and dpi enough?

I think these options would be amazing to have:
- Scale ratio, for percentage-based scaling
- Width / Height for pixel-based scaling (maybe with a ratio option?)
- DPI
- Scaling interpolation
- Color profile picker
- A way of previewing the scaling would be nice too
- This is not something I would call required to have but maybe a way of cropping the canvas? you could specify the width and height of the "cropping area" and if you add a preview zone in the exporting panel, we could move that "cropping area" around, to select the area we want to export. It's probably complex to do but could be an interesting feature to have.

Those are the things that come to my mind, dunno what the others think.

I currently use the app “image size” to resize images and they also have the option ≤pixel in addition to choosing width/height manually.

So for example you choose ≤4000px and then the longest side will be 4000px adjusting the other automatically without changing image ratio. A bit similar to the existing “image resizing”, just for export, and that it stays under the size.

Exporting options would be really nice feature to have directly in app, as well as the “save as template” option mentioned in the other thread :)

OOOOH also another must have when we export a file, allowing us to decide the name we want to use. A lot of my drawings include more than one drawing in a file, think of them as "sequences", so allowing us to pick the name of the file would save me a lot of time >.<

Sure but when adding image exporting "name " options, please also keep the option the way it is right now, that it automatically numbers the images in the apple gallery (Just to avoid that every exported image would be named "untiteld" if you dont add a specific name)

Yeah, I always use file format for images like "YYYYMMDD painting project/name" for better file organization. Would be good to have an option of current date in file name on creating. Not a big problem to write it manually, but if you gonna make templates, that can be useful.

I'm not sure I understand, I don't think apple allows rewriting files, if the filename is "name", they always go "name(1)", "name(2)" and so on, that's why I suggest adding the option to change the name while exporting, so I can tweak that instead of having the default naming from apple, or if I export the drawing at 50% size change my filename to "name - half" or stuff like that. Hope it makes more sense now ^^U

And yah, the renaming option would have the current filename already typed in, like most apps/programs do, so people who don't want to change the name don't have to do anything else :o

Some apps like Mega allows picking the name up before I save the canvas to that app, so I don't really have that problem, but it would be nice to have it for the apps that doesn't allow it

We don't want to change names of exported files.
If you want to export by email with different name, just duplicate and rename the document.
