Suggestions, Ideas, Bugs / Re: Edit favorite brush preset
on: January 20, 2022, 07:49:59 AM
I did not know about 'edit current' brush.  Maybe this button could be also added to the Fav tools (like shown in my previous image) ?
BTW. if Fav tool  would link to Instance of brush - rather than it being copy of brush, then we would not have to go through : delete old preset, add updated preset steps.  Any update to base preset, would update linked instances immediately.

Suggestions, Ideas, Bugs / Edit favorite brush preset

I do not think it is possible to edit fav brush preset, right? The way it is now we have to:
 - find fav brush in brush editor (good luck finding it, if u  forgot where 'original' brush was saved it)
 - edit brush and save
 - remove old fav brush version from fav list
 - add new edited brush version to fav list.
Damm its complicated.
I wish devs would add edit  fav brush button:

This wold automatically bring us to proper category and brush in brush editor.
Also it would be great if Fav brush - settings would be instanced/shared with 'original' (source brush) brush it was created from. Meaning if I edit 'original'  brush settings in brush editor, the fav brush will be updated too (this would save us from performing two last steps from list above).

The only downside of linking fav brus, to 'original' brush - there would have to be info when removing original brush :'U are going to remove brush which is also placed in Fav category. U sure?' or something like this.  If user select 'Yes' - then both 'Original' brush and same brush in 'fav list' would be removed.
Thx for 4.0 update btw.

When testing brushes I often go inside brush category just to then see it is disabled.
If category toggle button would be placed next to category name it would be easier to see what settings are affecting brush parameters:

Suggestions, Ideas, Bugs / Re: Version 3.1 BETA
on: March 25, 2021, 12:17:25 PM
Hi nice updates in the beta
I was wondering - are there any chances for UI update - I remember after previous release lots of people were having suggestions about how to reduce space taken by the Brush panels, Color wheel or layers . Right now they are huge, and take lot of drawing space.

5
Bug or not it was awesome feature.
I reported this bug in here https://www.luckyclan.com/forum/index.php?topic=1621.msg4432#msg4432

I agree saving custom presets could be improved (basically make it like saving image file):
1) 'Save'  - should store brush state ('save as' - to save as new preset), and it should  on both: custom and build-in brushes
2) after  tweaking of brush settings we are in 'dirty'/temp mode.
   - 'reset' (or 'reload') would reset to last 'saved' state.
   - 'save'  would override last 'saved' state with new settings.
This way we can make some temporary changes, reset it any time, or commit changes as permanent
3) maybe there could be 'restore to factory settings' - for build-in brushes
4) IMO  any temporary changes made to brush (without using 'save'),  should not disappear after switching to different brush. Only 'reload' should clear the temporary changes. Imagine if you used you logic of clearing brush settings when drawing images - lets say we paint in two tabs two images, we switch to second tab, and BAM! artstudio erases your changes made in previous tab without asking!

Also I think I found regression.
In previous version of Artstudio  I could use - left thumb press and hold  + pen click and drag to pick color. Now this option seems to not work.

New update looks promising, it is great we can dock most of the panels now.
a) I just wish we could save drawing space by merging few options into dropdown lists (I know there is another thread pointing similar issue - busy UI):

I picked options that are not used that often, so moving then into dropdown menu should not slow down the workflow that much.
Yes it requires removing panels titlebars - but they are redundant anyway - when I see color selector - I do not need titlebar saying 'Color'.
I also removed color preview in 'Color' panel titlebar - it is also redundant (we have color info shown in 3-4 places - left slider panel, in top right corner, in color selector wheel/square and lastly in color selector titlebar - wtf).
b) Also it would be great if selecting fav brush, would highlight it in brushes panel list, so I can easily edit it.
c) Please revers finger gesture - for size / opacity directions - it is way more convenient to use up/down direction for size. IMO adjusting alpha is less used, so it can be left/right slide.
d) Lastly it would be great is brush options for enabling/disabling Jitter,Patern, Aux stamp , dynamics etc. was moved from inside of those individual categories, to one level up - next to category name:

I often click on category just to see it is disabled.

Hi,

I’m not sure if this is a bug. When I draw with Apple Pencil and tip (tilt) the pencil the app offsets the stamp. Check the video:

https://vimeo.com/383632663
You can check Lucky Clan answer to my similar question:
https://www.luckyclan.com/forum/index.php?topic=1132.msg3240#msg3240
But in the end I agree that the tilt offsets brush dabs too much. It looks like brush dab is stretched from brush tip  to far into the center of pencil, and that makes it feel like rather than shading with brush tip, you are shading with pencil center...

When version 3 will be out? What new features we can expect

I think when I enable 'Size tilt effect' spacing should be scaled together with dab size. Right now 'Size tilt effect' only increases brus size, but spacing stays the same.

"Please tell me which brush should I use to reproduce this"
I just used basic build in round brush (with generated tip), and enabled flow: pressure and tilt.

12
Thanks for the fix.
I think latest update introduced new bug (I cant revert ArtStudio to test previous release to se if bug was there):
- when using generated brush tips (circle, square), and setting brush flow dynamics to : pressure and tilt - pressure is being ignored. Only tilt is affecting flow. Image brushes work ok.

13
In very latest update (2.2.8? ) when I have  circle brush tip selected, and brush size - linked to both pressure and tilt, the brush tip is getting squashed (more elliptical) when tilting pencil. Textured brushes tips are not affected and work ok (they mantain proportions).
Update:
This bug is still there in 2.2.9 update.

I tried the latest update with speed bust for flat wet  brushes.
After painting for few minutes, brush (mabe canvas? ) is getting corrupted and I can paint only black (current color is ignored). Reopening document helps for just another few  strokes. Then brush color goes black again (the selected color stays the same eg. yellow, just brush outputs black color).

Suggestions, Ideas, Bugs / New color blending
on: July 18, 2019, 01:44:06 PM
Hi, I saw new Borodante video about AS Pro 2.2 and new average blending looks great.
I remember he mentioned it is going bit slow for big brushes (600px) even with metal support.
I wonder are you using subsampling for color blending? Maybe this can bump the performance without visual quality loos.
There is one cool doc about it: http://extremelearning.com.au/evenly-distributing-points-in-a-triangle/
Picking 100points, vs 600x600 points should provide speed boost right (I assume this is the most time consuming part).
