I'm really baffled by trying to create a masking layer.   It 's probably intuitive for someone accustomed to it from say Photoshop but not for me.

Are there any instructions for this or any video tutorials by Lucky Clan or anyone?

I've seen it demonstrated in a few videos but not actually explained.

Thanks.

Thanks, I appreciate the honest reply.   No doubt it's more interesting to add functionality than write documentation.

Suggestions, Ideas, Bugs / Manual status?
on: May 31, 2018, 01:09:28 PM
The video tutorials you've provided are helpful for what they cover, but inferior overall to a manual as they are necessarily incomplete in the interest of time and not searchable.

Do you know when a standard manual will be produced?

I understand that some features may be changing frequently so a fixed document manual may not be practical.

But a manual broken down into sub sections (even just html links) that could be updated independently would be immensely valuable for more obscure functionality.   I would think it would save you time in the long run vs constantly answering such questions in the forum.

Also, it's sometimes not clear even when something is explained whether it applies to the Mac version, iPad version or both.

How can these be found?

Thanks,

Thanks.   That works.   But, cmd-a, then cmd-x (and then cmd-d to deselect all again) is a bit awkward -- and it's not something that can be set a as an express key either unfortunately.

Can we define/re-define the keyboard shortcuts?      There seems to be no way to clear the layer without diving into the menus.   Am I'm missing it?   Even in the layer panel I only see option to delete a layer, not clear it.

Suggestions, Ideas, Bugs / Minor eyedropper bug
on: April 18, 2018, 09:23:07 PM
I notice that if one clicks on the color editor window with the eyedropper active then it's not possible thereafter to use any keyboard shortcuts, e.g. B to switch back to brush.  Keyboard shortcuts only work again if the main window is clicked again or if brush is chosen from the icon bar.   This is still the case for 1.2.2.

Is that very popular app on iOS?    I'd guess that the very popular application you allude to provides documentation on how to use as well as limitless third party youtube tutorials to be found.  Artstudio Pro has no such resources for the people who purchased the product.

I'm glad you will have a tutorial on this at some point.    My opinion however is that users would prefer not to watch a video every time they want to learn what autoset opacity is -- or paint duration or size tilt effect etc.    Even a succinct mouse-over tip would help a lot.

You didn't mention whether there will be a manual eventually.    I did find one for Artstudio but seems to have little bearing on the current program.

Thanks for your feedback.

I spent a great deal of time trying to figure out how to use the transform tool.    I was making a selection and then trying to use 'Transform this selection' under selection which evidently only change the selection boundaries itself, not the portion of the image selected?  I'm still not sure.

Searching the forums didn't help and I can't find any documentation on anything.  Eventually I came upon Transform under 'Edit' an
d all is good.  But, I find the 'Transform this selection' phrasing highly confusing.   I can't recall any other drawing program set up this way.

Are there plans to create a manual for this?     I don't know what half of the options in the brush engine mean.   It's very frustrating and I'd prefer to spend my time painting instead of trying to decipher how the program works.

Suggestions, Ideas, Bugs / Blending brushes?
on: April 08, 2018, 12:11:08 PM
Are there any blending brushes, i.e. non-color loaded brushes that pick up and average underlying colors?
I see some brushes called blenders but can't discern any difference in behavior between say, acrylic brush in Painting and the Acrylic blender in Smduge.

I really like the organic character of the brushes in this program but I feel very constrained without a way to properly blend.     There are lots of adjustment parameters that I don't understand so it's probably in there.    Which is another question-- how can I find how what all these options mean?   Is there a manual?   Most of these are standard terms but some are not.

Thanks,

Joel
