Suggestions, Ideas, Bugs / when, when, when
on: March 16, 2018, 03:27:57 AM
This post relates to the following:

..... Art Studio Pro v.1.1.6 (March 12, 2018)
..... iPad Pro 10.0.2
..... Apple Pencil

My last post was basically ignored. Tim answered, but either he didn't try my step-by-step to reproduce my problem, or he... I don't know.

So I'll spare myself some time and just ask when you think the brushes might work.

By that I mean that each and every preset can be individually reset, the settings function as they are supposed to, the settings don't ALL go back to defaults when you only want to reset one item to defaults, and they don't keep reverting to presets you've never used, or at least not in months, every time you blink, etc., etc., etc.

I've been pretty patient, but a lot of time has gone by, and, in my opinion, this isn't even ready for beta testing (at least in the brush area), let alone several months in public release.

Having said that, I've made use of it for cropping. That works well.

Cropping.

But to do art, to sketch and paint, I continue to use Procreate. All I really wanted was to have some fun with this and sketch a few things. But that is IMPOSSIBLE for me, given that I tend to make my own brushes for everything, and your entire brush system is chaos, in my opinion.

When?

Suggestions, Ideas, Bugs / still major brush problems
on: January 25, 2018, 05:01:23 AM
I just got today's update.  (I've been getting updates all along.)

The brushes are still not usable for me.

For example, whenever I use:

....... View | Reset Tool

my brush turns into:

.......  Static Big Pen 15 px

=======================

To prove it, try this:

1 - Switch "Group" to "Painting"

2 - Select the preset named "Big Aquarel - 300 px"

3 - Using the sliders, reduce the size and opacity.

4 - Paint a few strokes.

5 - To get the default size and opacity back, select "View" and then "Reset Tool" from the top menu.

6 - Along the bottom bar, tap the brush icon to the right of the color square to bring back the Brush Editor.

7 - Notice that even though the "Group" is still "Painting" AND even though the yellow selector box is still around "Big Aquarel - 300 px" ... the name in the box above has switched to "Static Big Pen 15 px."

8 - If you go ahead and paint some more, now you are painting with the Static Big Pen from the Sketching Group, even though you selected the Big Aquarel Brush from the Painting Group.

==================

No matter what I do, it always switches back to the Static Big Pen - 15 px.

This is just one of many surprising brush problems.

Some brushes don't work very well.  Here's an example.

You have a Sharp Pencil (Tilt) 2 px.

It doesn't show at all until increased to at least 5.

I thought maybe it was something to do with the "Tilt" in the name.

But other tools have similar problems.

And back to the Sharp Pencil, once it does agree to draw, it turns out to be highly jittered and separated dots.  Can't draw a connected line.

I first tried it with a 1000 x 1500 sheet.

Then the same thing happened with only a 600 x 900 sheet.

I found out that if I wait to turn on bluetooth, and pair my Apple Pencil, until AFTER I start Art Studio Pro, ASP disregards the Pencil.

However, if I connect the Pencil first, and then start ASP, it works.

Some of the brushes weren'r working too well, so I got the update to 1.0.5.

Now, my Apple Pencill will not work at all.

In Pencil Only mode, I canNOT draw with my Apple Pencil even though, oddly, I can draw with my FINGERS in Pencil Only Mode.

Naturally, I tried both modes, but the Apple Pencil will not work even though my iPad knows it is there and paired it and all that stuff.

Weird!

Can't use the app at all now.

Here is my configuration:

--- iPad Pro

--- iOS 10.0.2

--- Art Studio Pro 1.0.5

--- Apple Pencil

I'll definitely keep watching!  It's encouraging to me that you are responding on these forums in such a positive and timely way.  Thank you :)

In this thread, I think we're talking about three different things.

First:  Can brushes be edited and saved?

Yes! as you described.  The language used doesn't quite make sense to me, but it can be done, right now.

But, second, can an artist switch between multiple brushes, tweaking each brush slightly, and come back to a previous brush and find the most recent tweaks still in place?

No.  Each brush is reset to defaults the moment you switch to a different brush.

This is a huge problem for me, because I constantly switch back and forth between several brushes, changing each one slightly as I go.  And then changing it again, and switching, and then changing it again a little............

So if I have to start all over with each brush, every few seconds, and re-do the first tweaks, and then add in my new tweaks as I go, it would be prohibitive.

Alternatively, if I save every tweak, every time, as a new brush I'd be absolutely drowning in dozens of brushes in just a few minutes.

The artist should be making the decision of when to reset a brush.  That HAS TO BE UP TO THE ARTIST.

And the third issue, then, is that we need a reset button for each brush that isn't activated until the artist decides to reset back to default for that brush.

And the brushes that the user creates should have their own reset buttons too, in addition to the buttons for the brushes that are shipped.

---*****---

P.S.:  Here is some language that might make better sense:

..... "Save as New Brush"

..... "Overwrite Brush w/Current Settings"

..... "Reset Current Brush to Defaults"

..... "Reset All in Category to Defaults"

And of course all the choices you have to make new categories, and copy between categories, are very important as well.  Wonderful in fact!

In that case, just switching to a different tool is what is resetting the previous tool.

This will make it nearly impossible for me to do anything but the most basic sketches with your app.

Normally as I work, I am switching between several brushes.  As I go, I'm making small changes to each brush, building from the previous changes.  In the apps I've been using, those changes hold even when I switch back and forth between brushes.

If I had to save every tiny change as a new brush, not only would things come to a standstill, but I'd have hundreds of brushes in no time.

I don't think that will work for me.

I don't think I'll be able to use this except for simple sketching, but I'll watch for updates.  It's a great app in many ways.

Suggestions, Ideas, Bugs / Re: Art Studio Pro User Manual ?
on: December 18, 2017, 09:53:58 AM
That's going to be wonderful for most people!

I wish I could watch tutorials.  Unfortunately, my data plan is too small.

I hope you will put detailed information in a PDF User Guide or on you website (where I could make screenshots).  I would need to refer to it over and over so as to fully utilize your program.

I know this is a new version so it may take some time!

9
I'm an artist, and soak up features like a sponge.  For me, features and tools offer the chance to do more, and to do it better.

Simplifying things as much as tablets often do ruins everything for me.

Bells and whistles are so very important, and they're fun to learn.

But to answer your question, I'll try to help.  Although I'm new to this program, here is what I think may help:

-----> From the main screen, select the Pencil Tool from the tool icons on the left-hand side.  It's the second tool down from the Crop Tool.

-----> Next, down at the bottom, between the Color Square and the Size Slider, tap on the little mini pic with a number under it.

------------> This will bring up the Brush Editor.

-----> In the Brush Editor, near the bottom of the dialog box, tap on the ^ (up arrow) by the current group.

------------> Select "Inking."

------------> You'll see about eleven pen choices.  Many of them are very smooth.

If you want to modify the settings of whichever pen you select, you can bring up a list of setting categories by tapping the Slider Icon while still in the Brush Editor dialog box.

------------> It's in the upper right corner of this dialog box.

Now, you'll see a list of categories.  Inside each category, there is a list of various choices for you to experiment with.

Have fun!!!

Suggestions, Ideas, Bugs / Art Studio Pro User Manual ?
on: December 17, 2017, 07:54:02 PM
I love to read User Manuals!  I can't find the User Manual for Art Studio Pro though.  Is it somewhere on your website?

I rely on them to do my artwork  :)

Thanks so much heisreason and admin!

---*****---

I tried this and apparently "Reset Tool" resets ALL tools.

I'll have to figure out major workarounds for this.

Do you think you'll ever have a reset button for each individual brush?

I often use several brushes in one painting.  Also, I change settings like crazy as I go.  If I'm working in one brush, and then "reset" that brush, then when I go back to a previous brush, I'll have to start all over with it to get back to what I was doing.

Although I can hopefully get around this, even my probable workaround will break up the flow of work.

I can probably do okay that way for awhile, but hope you will consider making a reset button for each brush, including self-made brushes.

Just a thought.

I'll go try out my workaround possibility now.

Hi Lucky Clan,

I've used the first Art Studio a LOT over the last year.  Mostly I used it to crop and label and arrange and export stuff I did in another app.  It has helped me so much!

But I was excited to discover today that you had a new Art Studio Pro with a new Brush Engine.  I bought it right away.

Unfortunately, as I was playing with the brush settings, I realized I can't find the reset button.

There HAS to be a reset button for each brush to get back to the default settings, textures, etc., for that brush, but I can't find it.

---*****---

I tried to get around this problem by creating a duplicate copy of a whole brush group, and then making various changes to the duplicates.

Unfortunately, the changes also took hold in the actual brushes, as well as the copies that I was working with.

The only way I can find to reset all these brushes is to DELETE THE APP.

Since I don't have enough data in my data plan to download it again (and again and again), it looks like I'm out of options and will have to continue without this new app.

I feel very sad about this.

---*****---

If you can tell me there is a reset button for every brush (or even for all brushes), that would save the whole situation, both now and future.

Thanks for any help you can provide.
