Suggestions, Ideas, Bugs / Brush making issues
on: October 31, 2019, 02:12:39 AM
Hi there
I'm encountering a number of problems when attempting to make new brushes as outlined below.
iMace late 2014 desktop ArtStudio Pro.

1. importing a new stamp head seems like a lot more trouble than it should be. I try copying to clipboard from either Photoshop or ASP, paste into the brush head field but nothing happens, try again, nothing, and again etc, at some random point I give up trying, close the brush head window, re-open it only to see all the brush heads I just pasted have now appeared. I then try deleting some duplicates but AS becomes unresponsive and crashes. On re-launch I get a crash report panel pop up, but when I try typing in the text fields it does not let me and simply repeats the first letter I typed in so the only option is to dismiss the crash report.

2. When I have finally and arbritarily managed to paste in and choose a new brush head (I'm still not clear how this should or did happen) it is longer in width than height and I want to make the brush go in the stroke direction, but Dynamics>Angle only allows me to do this in the 'Mouse' option which works as expected. The 'Stylus' option only gives the choice of Rotation which does not work as expected. Am I missing another setting somewhere for stylus or is this a bug?

Thanks
Sav

Thanks for being so quick to address it! However I should ask what exactly should I be seeing? I still don't seem to have any shortcut options, just the same two prefs tabs - General and Interface -  with the same options in them.
Thanks

Thanks for the reply. Perhaps I'm being a bit daft but I can't see that - see prefs

Hello
Perhaps someone could put me right here but I'm sure I could previously press some key combination to temporarily toggle the zoom tool while painting. I thought it was the space bar or that plus some other modifier key, but in v2.2.1 pressing the the space bar while painting always defaults to pan, no matter whether zoom, rotate or pan is the currently selected transform tool. This seems like a bug as the only way to zoom the canvas is to stop painting and choose the zoom tool or use the keyboard commands+/- which are also less convenient because again they break the painting workflow. I kind of feel pressing the space bar should toggle whichever is the currently active transform or if not, space bar is pan and spacebar + 2 other keys toggle zoom/rotate?
Thanks

Suggestions, Ideas, Bugs / png, jpg export crash
on: June 11, 2019, 01:21:58 AM
Hello
AS Pro 2.1.11 on Mac Os 10.14.5 - I'm experiencing a consistent crash when I hit the jpg or png buttons within the Export dialogue. In addition, pressing Tiff just hangs the app. I have managed to export both a PSD and PDF of the particular file I'm working on.
Other info - the original file was first made on an iPad Pro and brought over to desktop as an Artstudio doc. Prior to engaging the Export panel I was going to do a Quick Export of a jpg but changed my mind and cancelled it. Will report further if there are any changes after I've restarted the iMac etc.
Thanks

I guess the answer is yes, but does A.S.P strip out photoshop's dual brush setting when importing abr's? I only ask in case it is called something else. :D
Thanks

Suggestions, Ideas, Bugs / Permanent docked colour settings
on: November 02, 2018, 03:58:06 AM
Hello
Artstudio has very much become my main painting app on desktop and iPad, especially since the draggable brush size keys were added. This is something I realise needs to be repeated every time I open the app so for me at least, there's a more logical solution. I have become accustomed to being able to permanently show a colour picker panel docked to the interface. In other apps this is part of the general prefs, so when you quit/reopen the app, the same UI opens. In Artstudio the Color settings panel is collapsed by default so you always have to click to open it then spend time wondering where it wil fit so as to not obscur the canvas etc. For me the best solution to that is to permanently dock it along with layers etc. I'm no interface designer but I've uploaded an attachment mock up of how this might look.
Thanks

Hello
I just bought Artstudio Pro desktop after being blown away by ASP for iPad. I was a big fan of ArtStudio anyway, but with pro finally comes an app which makes me genuinely prefer working on the iPad than a computer, amazing work.

And from there, the performance of large brush sizes in ASP desktop is phenomenal when compared to most other apps. Painting big washes in real time and print size canvases is a pleasure now. I also love the seamless integration with the iPad version as well as seamless Photoshop brush import. Again, an amazing painting app.

I emailed you about my main topic and you graciously said you'd consider adding the feature, but having used the commercial desktop version for a few days, I realise why the feature is quite important for me. In many apps (but not photoshop) you can set up a wacom pen button to drag left/right to increase/decrease brush size on the fly. I change brush size a lot as in many cases it is preferred to making a single brush's minimum size = 0 and trying to control size with pressure. Being able to do this ensures that your workflow is not broken at all and for me is the best way to resize a brush while keeping the flow. The 3 options we currently have in Artstudio Pro require that you do break your workflow:

1. Keyboard [] are situated far right of the kb. It is more productive for right handed users to have the left hand poised around the modifier/undo/select all/copy/cut area of the keyboard, so in order to change brush size by keys, I need to break workflow and look down. This also leads to a secondary request for custom keyboard shortcuts as there seems no way to change the arrangement currently.

2. UI brush size slider - is positioned above far left of the canvas which is great to have but also requires a break in the workflow. In the absence of a button click drag option, bringing up a modifier button/click resize slider at the cursor's current position would be less distracting.

3. Using the Wacom tablet's touch ring also requires either ditching the keyboard in order to hover over the ring which is counter productive, or breaking workflow to locate the ring with either hand.

I know it seems like I've thought way too much about such a tiny feature in such an otherwise massively impressive app, but once you've had that click drag resize, anything else feels like a step backwards.

Another minor point is the floating colour panel. I'd love to see a cut down version without swatches which will persistently dock to the right hand side of the UI along with layers etc so it is saved with launch prefs. I think the number fields could be made smaller or rearranged to accommodate a narrower panel which would therefore fit. In addition a contextual popup colour picker at cursor position is often useful.

Sorry for the long post about pretty minor things, but for me at least, they'd make a difference to the workflow, though I openly admit this app is not solely designed for me. :D

Cudos to Lucky Clan for creating such a stand out painting app in a crowded market. I absolutely love it!
Thanks
