Title: Prefer opacity on the app level
Post by: Nighternet on May 28, 2018, 11:37:54 PM
I know you've probably frozen all changes for the next big update, but please - prefer opacity in preferences. Now I have to go and change it every time for every rush, which is not in the favs. Flow doesn't do anything for me, it's an unnatural brush control with unpredictable effect. I always keep it 100%.

You can just create your own brushes (by copying the existing ones) with 'Prefer opacity slider' enabled.

I did, but I can't turn every brush I use into the favorites without the favorites' powerful management tool. The menu is getting too long already. What's the point of being able to use various brush groups, if all you can do is to create your own?

How about if we have sliders for both Opacity and Flow in the Bottom Bar?

Sorry, no space for 3 sliders.

There may be a technical reason beyond my knowledge, but surely...

“More” could shift to the right, Colour and Brush Preview to the left..?

( Personally, I’ve long thought the Bottom Toolbar is much under-used, for many if not most of the tools - even avoiding the need sometimes to go to “More” ).

I’m a professional illustrator and I’ve been working with Artstudio Pro on my iPad Pro for the last week on client projects. I’m blown away by the thoroughness of the tool-set! Really impressive.

Is there any way to permanently activate the OPACITY slider in the preferences? Each time I load a brush group, I have to go into each brush setting, go to GENERAL and activate the OPACITY slider. I’ve tried copying a brush with the OPACITY slider activated and paste it into a new group but it defaults back to the FLOW slider.

When I paint I rarely touch the FLOW setting. But I’m constantly changing OPACITY. It would be a huge time-saver if it was possibly to permanently activate the OPACITY slider.

Again, couldn’t be happier with Artstudio Pro as a professional-grade tool. Thanks!

I asked for that in the day one of the app release with no avail. Flow has zero use with any type of digital painting. It doesn't achieve what a combination of size/opacity does, but creates a very unpredictable effects, especially with textured brushes. I understand there is some cool algorithm behind it, but only result matters.

Remember app interface should looks good on all iPads, including iPad Mini and iPad 9.7.

They can be set in %% to the width. Honestly, I never use more than 50% of the size slider. But again, if choosing the slider on the app level was possible, that would be enough.

I added this request to my 'Ideas' list. I will consider adding it soon.

I've got an idea that might work. I just got done demoing Astropad Studio (overpriced software rental). In the bottom left corner, there was an activation button that would bring up the keyboard or another one to bring up modifier keys (Shift, control, option and command on a Mac). This might be a way of being able to increase brush size (holding down option and command), bring up eyedropper (option), opacity (control) etc. Once used, one could tape the activation button again and you just have the button on the screen.

Absolutely! A programmable modifier (alt) button in the bottom left or right would solve 99% of all customization requests. So one can paint/erase or paint/smudge with the thumb on the modifier. Or switch between scale and move in transformation. Or switch between any two favs, just to name a few.
