Title: Hard edge switch and feathering lasso selection

They seem to conflict. In any case, feather overrides the hard edge. Why both, if 0 feather is the hard edge?

Both option can co-exists, so everything works fine.
Hard edge - when off selected area is rendered with antialiasing.
Feather - blurs the selection (using Gaussian Blur) after rendering selected shape (the same as Select>Blur...)

Off-selected area cannot be painted on. I've tried to paint using view>selection>none to see if there is any difference in edge treatment. There was none. Perhaps it's something else. Can you show what's the difference?

I'm not sure if I get the problem.
You should know that marching ants show the border between selected and unselected pixels.
But if pixel is partly selected, for example when you use feather or blue - ants show only part that it is at least 50% selected.
That's why you can paint outside the marching ants when selection is blurred. You can switch to "quick mask" (View>Selection>Quick Mask) to see the selection more precisely.

Couldn't load the video, but I think I know what's happening: we were talking about different things. You referred to the selection menu item "hard edge" (that thing works fine), and I was talking about the switch on the bottom, when you do the lasso. Which doesn't make any difference.

Video doesn't record me using the switch. It only shows the change on the screen, but if there is none, what you expect to learn from it? I create a selection using lasso, then switch hard edge on and off, and nothing happens. Not a big deal of course. Just trying to understand the purpose of that switch.

After you turn on/off hard edge, you have to make a selection again

Select>Hard Edge menu item modifies current selection

Hard Edge switch in select tool is just a tool setying
