Title: ASP for iPad. Eraser and transparency?

Apologies for my naivety but, How do I stop the eraser from erasing to the checkboard transparent layer?

Use bottom layer as a background layer, and add a new layer to paint on it.
App can do it automatically if you set Background: White+Transparent in New Image popup.
